They Gutted Election Security, Then Gave a Speech About Election Security
They slashed CISA by a third, then went on primetime to talk about cyber threats. I have questions.
🗺️ Current Dispatch: Rest area off I-70, mile marker 157, just east of Zanesville, Ohio
⛽ Local Diesel: $4.19/gal
☕ RV-Stove Coffee: $3.75 at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl (not a diner, but they pour coffee and it’s honest — 6/10, burnt but bold)
⏳ Days in trip: 14
I’m parked in the one state that almost meets the new voter ID rules Congress wants to ram through. The irony is so thick I can smell it over the diesel fumes from the rig two spots over.
Thursday night, the President went on primetime TV. He waved a stack of papers. China hacked 220 million voter files. Voting machines are at risk. Non-citizens are on the rolls. The whole system is wide open.
Look — some of those fears are real. I won’t tell you our election setup is airtight. It’s not. But here’s what I will tell you, from the driver’s seat, with a warm cup of Tom’s finest on the dash:
They fired the people who guard elections. Then they gave a speech about how exposed elections are. Then they asked for $10 billion.
That’s not safety. That’s a sales pitch.
The Driver’s Scene & The Macro Extraction: The Primetime Trick — What the Docs Really Say
I watched the speech on my phone, propped on the wheel. Blue glow versus amber lot lights. A trucker two spots over had it on his cab radio. We locked eyes through our glass. He shook his head. I nodded.
Here’s what the President said: China grabbed 220 million voter files. Five nations can hack our machines. The FBI buried fraud proof in Michigan. Some 278,000 non-citizens sit on voter rolls in four states.
Here’s what his own staff said before the speech aired: none of the docs claim any votes were changed or machines hacked. A top aide told press that flat out. Before the cameras went live. CBS confirmed it. CNN read the full stack and found that “much of it repeats facts already public.”
The 220 million voter files? Most voter data is public. States post it online. You can ask for it. A 2020 intel report — made public *four years ago* — said China got voter data “for public opinion study.” U.S. intel found in March 2021 that no foreign actor tried to change any part of the vote. Not ballots. Not counts. Not rolls.
The Venezuela machine story? Those were Smartmatic machines. They’re not used in the U.S. except in L.A. County. The Michigan fraud case? The FBI looked into it and closed it.
David Becker of the Center for Election Innovation put it plain: ”This team has run the whole federal government for 18 months. They threw huge resources at finding mass fraud. After all that, we got more rehashed, debunked tales.”
Now here’s where it gets real — and this is the part Bob and Carol need to hear. This is where the money moves.
While the President pointed at smoke on TV, his team had already gutted the fire crew. Nearly 1,000 CISA staff — a third of the agency — were cut or quit by mid-2025. The FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force? Gone on AG Bondi’s first day. The Election Assistance Commission lost all its members by July 9th. CISA’s budget ask dropped from $3 billion to $2.4 billion. States lost access to the core federal system that helped local offices fight real cyber threats.
They tore down the guard rails. Then went on TV and said the road is unsafe. Then sent a bill.
Follow the money.
The Macro Extraction, Continued: The SAVE Act — A $10 Billion Federal Watch Grid Dressed Up as Voter ID
The SAVE America Act passed the House 218-213 back in February. It says you need proof of citizenship to register and photo ID at the polls. On the surface? Sounds fair. Most folks I meet at truck stops think voter ID is just common sense.
But I read the bill. What’s inside is not a voter ID law. It’s a federal watch grid.
The bill tells states to build new checks within 30 days. They must cross-match voters against DHS’s SAVE database and Social Security files. Federal agencies must reply to state checks within 24 hours. It forces purges of current voter rolls using federal data. It makes it a crime for poll workers to make errors — not fraud, mistakes — and lets any person sue election staff for slip-ups.
Read that again. A poll worker in rural Ohio makes a typo, and a stranger can drag them to federal court.
The study from ResponsiveGov found that no state meets the bill’s strict ID rules. Not one. Ohio comes closest, but even Ohio needs fixes. Thirty-five states would need big changes to their laws. Fourteen states plus D.C. would have to rebuild from scratch. The bill bans concealed carry permits as valid ID. It bans local government worker IDs. It bans many states’ own voter ID cards. It bans student IDs.
And here’s the part cable news skips: Section 4 strips all voter forms from the Paperwork Reduction Act. That kills the normal review that checks costs and burden. No cost study. No public comment. No limits — with zero oversight.
Meanwhile, DHS chief Mullin said Friday that CISA would hold back election help from states unless they feed rolls through the SAVE database. Two federal judges gave opposite rulings on whether the new SAVE system is even legal — one in D.C. blocked it, one in Florida let it run for four states. The legal ground is cracked and messy. That’s the exact setting where executive power grows.
House Republicans now want to strap the SAVE Act onto a State Department spending bill through a trick called MIRV — bolting it to must-pass funding to force a Senate vote. The budget plan from July 15th sets aside up to $10 billion for election spending.
Ten billion dollars. For a threat that, by the White House’s own pre-speech words, has shown no proof of flipped votes or hacked machines.
The clock is ticking on the biggest energy deadline in American history…
Aims its full firepower at ONE company.
See, on August 18th, the government holds a landmark land auction for this energy source - and the results could reshape the entire sector.
But here’s what almost nobody knows:
When the White House killed credits for solar, wind, EVs, and every other renewable energy source in America…
They left one untouched.
Not only that - they reclassified it alongside oil and nuclear…
And gave it eight years of credits.
Because last June, a drilling crew working right near the Grand Canyon…
Unearthed a well of clean energy producing almost 8 times the output of the largest oil well in Saudi Arabia…
Capable of powering civilization for two million years.
Right here on American soil.
Everything changed that day.
Google signed a 15-year contract…
Bill Gates wrote a $100 million check.
And on August 18th, the government hands this energy source its biggest advantage ever.
One company owns the entire chain.
The window to be an “early investor” is closing fast.

The Laptop Execution & The Roadside Detour
So what does an election fight have to do with your savings and your freedom?
Everything.
Here’s the clean version: When $10 billion gets pushed through budget rules, it lands somewhere. It flows to contractors. Database firms. ID check companies. Cyber vendors — the same ones now selling services CISA used to give for free. Watch the government IT and ID sector. Watch firms in biometrics and database builds. The feds just made a market by burning the public option.
But the bigger signal is governance risk. When two judges rule opposite ways on the same system in the same month — when the White House ties security funds to state obedience on shaky legal ground — when an election board loses all members five months before a midterm — that’s not just noise. That’s structural rot. And structural rot is the most reliable early sign of money fleeing into hard assets.
The Wi-Fi Swing Play: I’m not shifting spots this week. I’m watching. When the system cracks this openly, the move is to tighten trail stops on stocks tied to government deals and stay heavy in physical goods and metals. Gold doesn’t care who runs the SAVE database. Gold doesn’t need a judge’s blessing. Gold doesn’t get purged from the rolls.
If you’ve got signal, pull up the budget text. Find the $10 billion line. Ask who gets that deal. Then ask if you’d rather own a slice of that contractor — or a slice of something that doesn’t need D.C.’s say-so to hold value.
You know my answer. Same one since mile marker one.
